How we assess:

Pupils are evaluated using formative and summative assessment throughout each unit of work.

We assess their development and application of skill. Pupils receive feedback during lessons from staff, peers or through self-analysis and use this to enhance their progress.

Their ability to evaluate and reflect on performance is assessed throughout each unit. Pupils are actively encouraged to consider the application of key terms and quality of their feedback and improve on this.

Pupils’ level of fitness and effort and application in Health Related fitness sessions is also recorded.

How can I help my Child:

Getting your children out and about walking, cycling in the fresh air and having fun being active is the most important thing. Being physically active EVERYDAY is key to all of us in terms of boosting our mental, physical and social well-being.

If you can encourage and support your child to follow their interests inside and outside of school in joining local clubs and teams, this is of a massive benefit to their well-being and physical development.

Simply playing throw and catch or passing a ball around in the garden, getting them to show or explain to you what they have been learning all helps to consolidate basic skills and understanding.

Careers

Physical Education highlights a pupil’s ability to work and communicate as part of a team, problem solve, challenge themselves physically and mentally and refine technical ability. By doing so it plays a vital role in all and any potential future pathways.

It clearly lends itself to those chasing the giddy heights of Elite sports performance, but also roles in the leisure industry, managing, coaching or facilitating sporting events. Many students, with a passion for PE aspire towards roles in physiotherapy, nursing and rehabilitation as well as sports science and research or even teaching and lecturing.

KS4

VCERT Health and Fitness- Pupils may select to follow this NCFE Vocational course.

It is a great qualification for those wishing to gain an insight into personal training, the Health and Fitness industry or that just enjoy looking after themselves and being healthy.

Pupils will sit an exam based on their understanding of basic anatomy and physiology of the body during exercise and the principles of fitness and training programme design. They will also be expected to work with a client in evaluating health and fitness and then planning to improve and adapting programmes to improve their fitness.

This great course gives pupils a great grounding for A-Level Pe or other Level 3 Vocational courses based in the Sport and Leisure industry.
