Travel and Tourism
Travel and Tourism is an applied vocational subject that explores the travel and tourism sector, from the major tourist destinations and factors that affect tourism to the organisations that are responsible for delivering holidays. At Key Stages 4 and 5 this takes the form of a BTEC qualification, with student's progress assessed primarily through coursework.
In addition to gaining knowledge and understanding of this important industry, Travel and Tourism students also develop a range of transferrable skills including research, report writing and presentation skills.
KS4
At Key Stage 4, students undertake the BTEC Level 1/2 Tech Award in Travel and Tourism. As part of this qualification, they complete four pieces of written coursework across two units, including Unit 1: Travel and Tourism organisations and destinations, and Unit 3: Customer needs in Travel and Tourism. In addition, they complete one written exam for Unit 2: Influences on Travel and Tourism. Lessons are applied and there are several opportunities for contact with local Travel and Tourism organisations. Throughout the course, students will be given the opportunity to develop their research and presentation skills and will be given regular feedback to help them improve their assessed work.
