SEND Information Report for Diss High School (Academy) 2016-17

Contributing to the Norfolk Local Offer for Learners with SEND

Welcome to our SEND information report which is part of the Norfolk Local Offer for learners with Special Educational Needs (SEND).

Diss High School is a Norfolk school situated in Diss. Pupils live either in the Market town of Diss or travel in from the surrounding villages. The school is part of the local cluster with strong links to the primary schools within the catchment area.  We are committed to working together with all members of our school community. We would welcome your feedback and future involvement in the review of our offer so please feel free to contact us through the school office on 01379 642424.

 Definition of SEND:

At different times in their school career, a child or young person may have a special educational need. The Code of Practice defines SEND as:

A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:
  • has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
  • has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.

Four areas of SEND:

1. Communication and interaction
2. Cognition and learning
3. Social, mental and emotional health
4. Sensory and/or physical

A provision map gives a simple overview of additional support provided and is updated at the start of each school year.

You can access it here: My School's SEND Provision Map: Diss High School 2016-2017

Diss High School is committed to shaping and developing provision for all our learners ensuring achievement for all. The SEND report declares our annual offer to learners with SEN. To be effective we need the views of parents/carers, learners, governors and staff. Please engage with our annual process to ‘Assess, Plan, Do and Review’ provision for SEND.
