At Diss high school we aim to enable pupils to acquire IT and computing skills, knowledge and understanding that can also be transferred to support them in other areas of the curriculum. IT and Computer Science has a crucial role in enhancing the learning process at all levels and across a broad range of activities. Pupils are encouraged to have open, enquiring minds and to perceive IT and Computer Science in the context of a wider body of knowledge, skills and vocabulary.


The IT and Computing department is continually reflecting upon its activities and the Schemes of work we offer, recognising areas for improvement, building on its successes and continuing to keep up to date with advances in technologies.
We have very high expectations of all students and encourage them to achieve their full potential. The team strongly believes that discipline coupled with a productive working environment is essential for success. We concentrate on reinforcing good behaviour, hard work and maintaining a positive working ethos.
We aim to further students’ IT and computing knowledge, understanding and skills across all ages. It is a vital part of being a member of a technologically advancing society in the 21st century.

Pearson Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Digital Applications: 

is graded at A*, A, B and C

provides opportunities for synoptic assessment

takes 120 guided learning hours to deliver and has 133 hours of total qualification time.

is equivalent in level and teaching time to one GCSE at grades A*-C.

This qualification aims to:

  • equip young people with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to design and make, effective digital products for others to use

BTEC Nationals in Information Technology use a combination of assessment styles to give you confidence that your knowledge can be applied to succeed in the workplace and the study skills to continue learning throughout your career .
This range of vocational assessments - both practical and written - mean you can showcase your learning and achievements to best effect when you take the next step, whether that’s supporting applications to higher education courses or potential employers.

This course will benefit any student who wishes to pursue ICT further, be it at college with a computer science route or with technical specialism in employment. Information Technology BTEC provides a practical, real world approach to learning alongside a theoretical background, giving the learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment.
