This year, the charities chosen by the Sixth Form committee for the whole school to support were ‘East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ and ‘Save The Children’.

Each day there was a new theme for Sixth Form fancy dress and some keen students paid to come in different costumes every day!  On Friday, the rest of the school had their turn to be in non-school uniform.

Each of the ten Sixth Form tutor groups was responsible for organising at least one event and there was a mixture of old favourites and new departures: In terms of lunchtime fundraisers in Ballantyne Hall, a selection of highlights from the musical ‘We Will Rock You’ started the ball rolling, with members of the triumphant Diss cast reprising their roles; on Tuesday, a full house enjoyed ‘Mr and Mrs’; on Wednesday, students produced an entertaining version of ‘Take Me Out’; the ever impressive drag show pulled in a large crowd on Thursday; in the final show of the week, the regular Staff Karaoke, energised by some talented new performers, took to the stage.  Those who witnessed the final act, featuring Messrs. Young, Lloyd, Glover and Hurley, will remember the multi-media extravaganza for the rest of their days!

Meanwhile, cakes were sold at breaks and lunchtimes, next to a ‘guess the number of sweets in a jar’ stall. Sixth Formers organised a quiz night, a sponsored fun run and two discos.

Finally, on Monday 12th December, there was an amazingly successful auction which raised well over £1000 by selling items which had been kindly donated by parents, staff and local businesses.

Mr Budds, Director of Sixth Form, said, “We raised £5000 in just seven school days;  the generosity of pupils, parents and staff at Diss High School knows no bounds. The enormous amount of time invested in the preparation, co-ordination and organisation of so many events is staggering.  So many people contributed and every single one of them should be proud of this year’s record-equalling total.”
