The Level 3 V Level in Accounting and Finance is a vocational qualification designed to give you both theoretical knowledge and practical experience of the accounting and finance sector. The course aims to develop your understanding of how financial information is created, interpreted and used within organisations, while preparing you for progression into higher education, apprenticeships or employment in finance-related careers. The course emphasises the application of knowledge through realistic business contexts and the development of transferable skills such as analytical thinking, communication and decision-making. This qualification is equivalent to one A level and will be accepted by universities through UCAS points.
1. Foundations of accounting explores the purpose and role of accounting in organisations, the needs of different stakeholders (such as owners, employees, lenders and regulators), the fundamental accounting concepts and principles, and the ethical considerations and professional responsibilities.
2. Recording financial information enables you to develop practical knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, source documents, journals and ledgers, trial balances, as well as the adjustments and corrections to accounting records.
3. Preparing financial statements explores how to prepare and understand statements of profit or loss, statements of financial position, financial records for sole traders and partnerships., and adjustments such as depreciation and accruals.
4. Analysing financial performance offers you the opportunity to learn to calculate and interpret accounting ratios, assess profitability, liquidity and efficiency, evaluate the financial health of organisations, and draw conclusions from financial data.
5. Finance in organisations focuses on sources of finance, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, financial planning, and investment appraisal techniques and decision-making.
6. The wider business environment enables you to consider such as economic conditions, government policy, regulation, technological developments, and sustainability and ethical issues can affect financial decisions and organisational performance.
