Homework Policy

All pupils have a work journal,  A5 size for Years 7-9 and A4/3 size for Years 10-13.

Years 7-9: a fortnightly homework will be set that is usually related to work in progress or research for future projects.

Pupils should spend approximately forty minutes on its completion.

Year 10: a fortnightly homework will be set that should underpin the principles of the GCSE syllabus and encourage work from direct observation as well as more experimental ideas.

Pupils should spend at least one hour on its completion.

Year 11: a weekly or fortnightly homework will be set to develop thematic work and provide research for ongoing projects.

Pupils should spend at least one hour on its completion.

Pupils will also be expected to build up a vocabulary of art terms (movements, artists, techniques etc). These are to be written into their sketchbooks on a regular basis either in lesson time or as a homework.

It is particularly important that pupils also have the chance to do some critical, historical and contextual work as part  of homework policy, as regularly as possible.

If pupils fail to complete or hand in their homework, Heads of Year should be informed by writing against the pupil’s name in homework folders in the staff room, the subject and date due for that homework.

Years 12/13: A and A/S Level: a weekly homework will be set that will underpin the principles of the syllabus and allow pupils to develop and research work for the three components, i.e. working from direct observation, work in their chosen area of study, work for their personal study.

Pupils should spend at least one and a half hours per week on its completion.
