Year 7

Project 1: Colour my world

During this unit of work pupils have the opportunity to focus on developing their observational drawing, painting, collage and printmaking techniques and skills within the context of ‘Colour’ in all its aspects. Students learn about the formal elements of composition and how these are used by artists to create works of art. Pupils learn the theory, physics and practical use of colour and how such knowledge is used by artists to create expressive and emotive works of art. Students gain an understanding of how to select and manipulate colours within a range of wet and dry media to develop their own ideas.
 

Project 2: The Coast and The Deep

During this unit of work pupils explore drawing, painting techniques, mark making, print and sculpture techniques within the context of the subject matter 'Coast and the Deep'. Pupils learn how to use the formal elements of line, tone, mark making and colour to capture aspects of shape and form. They also explore the work of a range of artists to build their ability to make appropriate contextual links to assist in the development of their own ideas and understanding. During this project students are given the opportunity to work on a seven-week extended homework project to equip them with an understanding of what is expected at GCSE level.

Project 3: Shoe design and construction

During this unit pupils explore the concept of design and shape through designer inspired workshops and focus on experimentation with mixed media to capture an understanding of functionality and aesthetics. This unit of work offers students the opportunity to study an innovative blend of design and technical appreciation. During the course of this project they will be encouraged to develop their knowledge of sculpture and paper construction.

 

Year 8

Project 1: Introduction to Narrative illustration

During this project students are introduced to the different types of illustration, investigating symbolism and meaning within the context of 'Narrative'. Pupils also explore the style and techniques used by a range of book illustrators to develop their ideas. Pupils focus on acquiring an understanding of typography as well as exploring the formal elements of composition and form. 

Project 2: Laundry

During this project pupils learn about drawing and mark making within a fine art context through workshops that explore recording from still life. Pupils also explore metamorphosis and transformations; making links to contemporary Surrealist artists on photoshop. During this project pupils learn how to create temporary portraits using clothing in the style of artist, Bela Borsodi. During this project students will be given the opportunity to work on a seven-week extended homework project to equip them with an understanding of what is expected at GCSE level.

Project 3: Perspective and Street art

During this project pupils investigate contemporary street art culture and link this to the real world. They learn how to read and interpret the message and meanings behind street art to explore their own ideas. Pupils also learn the skills, processes and techniques associated with perspective.
